Bloody Clash in Onitsha: Three Feared Dead as Mob Attacks Anambra Revenue Collectors

A violent confrontation in Onitsha, Anambra State, has left three people feared dead and several others injured. The incident occurred along Old Market Road near Venn Road North when a group of revenue collectors clashed with an angry mob.

Eyewitnesses report that the trouble began when revenue officials pursued a tipper driver, demanding payment. In the ensuing chaos, the driver lost control of his vehicle, striking and killing a pedestrian on the spot.

The tragic event enraged onlookers, primarily youths, who formed a mob and launched a violent attack on the revenue officials using clubs, stones, and sticks. In the melee, two revenue agents were reportedly killed.

One eyewitness, Mr. Jackson, described the revenue collectors as “touts” who regularly harass motorists in the area. “They were chasing a tipper and even jumped into the driver’s seat, struggling for control. The driver lost control, and the vehicle hit a passerby, killing him instantly,” he explained.
