The 33rd Annual National Conference and AGM of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), themed “Environmental Resource Management, Conservation and Protection in the Global Emerging Innovative Technology for Sustainable Development,” will be held from October 30th to November 1st, 2024, in Victoria Island, Lagos.
NES President, Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, revealed this while briefing the journalists over the weekend in Abuja.
He reiterated that this year’s conference is titled “EKO 2024,” will focus on identifying scientific and practical solutions to various environmental challenges faced globally, nationally, and locally.
According to Dr Okobia that the conference will feature technical sessions addressing sub-themes related to environmental sustainability and emerging issues in resource management.
The keynote speaker will be Professor Olarewaju Adigun Fagbohun, former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, while notable dignitaries such as Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, and the Honourable Minister of Environment Balarabe Lawal Abbas are expected to attend. Additional guests include prominent figures like the Eleko of Eko, Rilwan Akiolu, representatives from the EU, and various state governors.
NES, known for its active advocacy and commitment to sustainable development, stands as Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest environmental society, with over 30 chapters throughout Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
This year’s conference aims to foster international collaboration, reinforce environmental protection efforts, and examine sustainable economic growth aligned with global environmental standards.
