The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, graciously welcomed numerous grassroots leaders of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC), foreseeing a near future where the distinctive red cap, emblematic of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State, will become a rare sight.
In response to inquiries regarding the wave of defections within the NNPP in Kano State, Senator Barau expressed his conviction that the continuous influx of NNPP members, including their esteemed leaders, into the APC signifies the escalating popularity and endorsement the APC is garnering in Kano State, despite its status as an opposition party.
“I shall persist in embracing NNPP members who are eager to align with our party. Politics thrives on numerical strength. If a political party fails to attract members from other parties, it signals underlying issues.
“The allure of the APC to NNPP members is attributed to our diverse initiatives across pivotal sectors in our state and the nation under the leadership of President Tinubu.
“At the inception of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu traversed the nation to beckon individuals to join the party. This strategic approach catapulted the party to national prominence. We shall continue to welcome NNPP and other party affiliates, regardless of dissenting voices.
“The day will arrive when the iconic red caps, synonymous with the Kwankwasiyya movement, will be scarce in Kano. That day is fast approaching.
“Our actions are geared towards laying a robust foundation for our party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and others to clinch victory in the forthcoming 2027 presidential, gubernatorial, and legislative elections in Kano and beyond,” as stated in a release by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir.
Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, the Deputy National Women Leader of the APC, who bore witness to the defections, lauded Senator Barau, hailing him as a boon to the APC, the populace of Kano State, the Northern region, and the nation at large.
“The substantial backing our party commands in Kano signals the dwindling days of the NNPP in the state. By the grace of Allah, we shall reclaim our state at the ballot in 2027,” she affirmed.
The Deputy President of the Senate welcomed members of the APC Amalgamated Support Groups from Kano State at the National Assembly.
Led by Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, the group visited the National Assembly to reaffirm their allegiance and gratitude towards Senator Barau for his myriad interventions in the state.
The assemblage, comprising former local government chairpersons, party influencers, agriculturists, entrepreneurs, and civil servants, attested that with Senator Barau’s support and interventions, the APC no longer resides in the realm of opposition in Kano.
“APC members in Kano are held in high esteem, even by the ruling NNPP in the state, owing to Senator Barau’s manifold interventions, projects, and initiatives,” the group proclaimed.
