The Senate committee on Local Content has expressed dissatisfaction with the procrastination in the implementation of the $2.8 billion Ajaokuta – Kaduna – Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project by Brentex CCP Limited.
Chaired by Senator Natasha Akpoti – Uduaghan (PDP Kogi Central), the Committee specifically addressed the management of Brentex CPP Limited regarding the $1.27 billion stations execution component of the contract during an interactive session.
Sani Abubakar, the Chairman of Brentex CPP Limited, lamented to the committee that the delay in executing the contracts is partly due to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) attempting to descope the $1.27 billion station component of the contract.
In response, the Committee Chair highlighted that based on the information available through submitted documents, NNPCL is considering descoping the stations component due to Brentex’s sluggish pace of work.
The committee emphasized that the responsibility lies with Brentex to complete the project within the agreed timeline, as any delays are attributed to their operations.
In conclusion, the Committee requested all correspondences between Brentex CPP Limited and NNPCL to ascertain the reasons behind the delays and potential descoping decisions.
