The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FCT FEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are seeking stronger collaboration to improve disaster preparedness and emergency response across the Federal Capital Territory.
The move followed an advocacy visit by the newly appointed Director-General of FCT FEMA, Mohammed Dikko, to NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office, where both agencies explored areas of cooperation to address disaster-related challenges in the territory.
The visit, according to the NEMA Abuja Operations Office Press Unit, underscored the importance of sustained inter-agency collaboration in tackling emergencies, including flooding, fire outbreaks, building collapses and other natural and human-induced disasters.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for both agencies to discuss strategies for improving disaster preparedness, strengthening early warning systems, enhancing information sharing and coordinating joint emergency response operations.
Other areas identified for cooperation included capacity building and community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives aimed at improving public awareness and strengthening the ability of communities to respond to emergencies.

The visit marks a step towards consolidating the existing working relationship between FCT FEMA and NEMA, with both agencies committed to strengthening disaster resilience and protecting lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.
