LWC, WaterAid Sign Contract to Rehabilitate Ojokoro Mini Water Works

The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), in partnership with WaterAid, has signed a contract with BayRoyal International Limited for the rehabilitation of the Ojokoro Mini Water Works, a project expected to improve access to potable water for more than 100,000 residents.

The contract was executed on Friday at the LWC headquarters in Ijora, Lagos, as part of efforts by the Lagos State Government to expand reliable, sustainable and affordable water supply across the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, described the project as a significant milestone in the Corporation’s drive to renew critical water infrastructure and ensure that investments translate into water availability for residents.

Tijani said the rehabilitation was not merely an infrastructure project but a commitment to improving the quality of life of Lagosians, particularly communities that have faced longstanding challenges in accessing dependable potable water.

The project, according to WaterAid Country Director, Ms. Evelyn Mere, will involve civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation rehabilitation, borehole rehabilitation and new drilling, as well as the deployment of solar power solutions to improve the reliability and sustainability of the facility.

Mere added that smart technologies, including real-time pressure monitoring, early leakage detection and automated network management, would also be integrated into the project.

She disclosed that the intervention would include a metering expansion programme targeting about 72,000 households, aimed at improving network efficiency and reducing non-revenue water.

Representing BayRoyal International Limited, its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Owoeye Peter, assured LWC and residents of Ojokoro of the company’s commitment to quality workmanship, safety standards and timely delivery of the project.

The Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. Barrister Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, and representatives of relevant government agencies also participated in the ceremony, underscoring the importance of institutional and community collaboration in the project.

The Director, Technical Services, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO), Mr. Olowu Idowu, represented the commission, while the Director, Water Resources, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Engr. Oyedele James, represented the ministry.

The rehabilitation is expected to contribute to improved public health, household welfare and socioeconomic development in Ojokoro, while supporting the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 6 on universal access to clean water and sanitation.
