Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intercepted three disassembled canoes allegedly procured by a notorious terrorist kingpin, Shehu Bagewaye, disrupting a logistics plan aimed at improving the mobility of his fighters across riverine areas of Zamfara State.
The interception followed credible intelligence that the terrorist leader had arranged to procure the canoes from Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State for onward movement into Zamfara.
According to the Joint Task Force, the canoes were intended to help the terrorists overcome river obstacles that had restricted their movement and enhance their capacity to carry out criminal activities against vulnerable communities.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of Sector 2 conducted a covert operation on Aug. 23 along identified areas of interest and successfully intercepted the three disassembled canoes while they were being transported to their intended destination.
The individuals conveying the items reportedly abandoned them and fled on sighting the troops.
The recovered canoes are currently in military custody, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend those connected with the attempted movement.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operation demonstrated the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in disrupting terrorist logistics and denying criminal elements resources needed to improve their mobility and operational reach.

“The Joint Task Force remains committed to taking the fight to the terrorists by identifying and disrupting their networks, logistics and freedom of movement before they can threaten communities,” he said.
Danja urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, describing public cooperation as critical to disrupting terrorist activities and safeguarding lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
