The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, securing a second term in office.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated 14 other candidates in the keenly contested poll. Reports from the collation of results indicate that he secured the highest number of votes to emerge victorious.
The declaration followed the completion of the state-level collation of results by the electoral commission. INEC’s procedure provides that the State Returning Officer collates results from the Local Government Areas before declaring and returning the candidate with the required highest vote total and constitutional spread as governor-elect.
The election was contested by major political parties, including Accord, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji emerging as Adeleke’s major challenger.
Adeleke’s victory means he will continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term, following his initial election victory in 2022.

The outcome also represents a significant political development in the state, as Adeleke successfully defended his mandate under a different political platform after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joining the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election.
Reports indicate that Adeleke won a substantial number of the state’s local government areas, with ThisDay reporting that he swept 19 of the 30 LGAs in what it described as a landslide victory.
