Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded a 213 per cent increase in the number of terrorist fighters and associates surrendering across the North-East Theatre of Operations in the past week, the military has said.
The development, according to the Theatre Command, followed sustained ground operations, engagements against identified terrorist positions and disruption of terrorist logistics and supply routes aimed at degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist elements and restricting their freedom of movement.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
Goni said the surge in surrenders reflected a growing number of terrorist fighters and associates abandoning terrorist activities and submitting to established surrender procedures following continued military pressure on their positions and logistics networks.
He added that two high-profile terrorist members surrendered to troops during the period under review, bringing arms, ammunition and other military items with them.
According to him, the recovery of the weapons and ammunition further indicates the impact of sustained military pressure on the cohesion, morale and operational sustainability of terrorist groups operating in the theatre.
The military also reported that other terrorist members surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7, 2026, at New Abaram, following sustained military operations and internal disagreements within the terrorist enclave.
The surrendered members were screened, while mobile phones and other items were recovered from them before they were handed over for further action in line with established procedures.
Goni said the increasing frequency of surrenders demonstrated the cumulative impact of the military’s multi-dimensional strategy, which combines offensive ground operations, precision engagements and systematic disruption of terrorist logistics and supply networks.
He noted that denying terrorists the ability to manoeuvre freely, regroup and replenish their resources was gradually undermining their operational capabilities and willingness to continue fighting.
“Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in sustaining legitimate military pressure against terrorist elements while providing appropriate channels for those who elect to surrender,” the statement said.
The Theatre Command said its objective remained to further degrade terrorist capabilities, restore security and create the conditions necessary for lasting peace and stability across the North-East.

It urged members of the public to continue supporting ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The Command also encouraged terrorists and their associates to abandon violence and take advantage of available surrender channels.
