The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerians living abroad to consistently project a positive image of the country and celebrate its achievements on the global stage.
Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal during a visit to two prominent Nigerians in the United Kingdom — Councillor Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Councillor Rosaline Oguro, Mayor of Islington.
The call was contained in a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, NiDCOM, Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, she described Adegoke’s emergence as the first individual from an ethnic minority background to chair the Nottinghamshire County Council since its establishment in 1889 as a remarkable milestone and a testament to the excellence and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora.
While receiving the NiDCOM boss, Mayor Oguro expressed appreciation for the visit and encouraged Nigerians abroad to continue promoting the country’s positive image wherever they reside.
In the same vein, Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the academic accomplishments of two outstanding Nigerians — Dorcas Akanbi, a medical graduate from Rostov State Medical University in Russia who graduated with an impressive 4.90/5.00 CGPA, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, the valedictorian and best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland.
She described their achievements as a reflection of the brilliance, resilience, and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, noting that such successes continue to elevate Nigeria’s reputation internationally.
The NiDCOM boss commended all four individuals for making the nation proud and urged other Nigerians in the diaspora to strive for excellence while serving as worthy ambassadors of the country.
Dabiri-Erewa stressed that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians must intentionally highlight success stories and the positive contributions of citizens across the world.
She further noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing far-reaching reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development and economic growth.

She urged Nigerians abroad to support national development through investments, skills transfer, and the use of their global networks to contribute to the country’s progress.
