Abuja — Prominent political leaders, security chiefs, Islamic scholars, and dignitaries converged in Abuja on Sunday as Alhaja Modinat Akintunde, wife of Senator Yunus Akintunde, marked her retirement after 35 years of meritorious public service with a grand fundraising event for the completion of the NASFAT Gudu Mosque.
The event, organised by the Nasrul-Lahi-il-Fatih Society (NASFAT), underscored a blend of faith, service, and community development, drawing attention to the importance of religious infrastructure and collective responsibility. NASFAT, a leading Islamic organisation in Nigeria, is widely known for its commitment to spiritual growth and humanitarian service.
The ceremony attracted notable personalities, including the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, senior political figures, and Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, whose presence was acknowledged as symbolic of growing political support and unity.
Delivering a spiritually charged lecture, the Chief Missioner of Ansar-ud-Deen Society, Abuja, Professor Musa Olaofe, emphasised the supremacy of divine recognition over worldly titles. He noted that regardless of status—whether senator, public office holder, or ordinary citizen—true honour comes from Almighty Allah.
“We must recognise those already honoured, but even if society does not, Allah has recognised you,” he said. “Whether you are a leader or an ordinary individual, your worth lies in your relationship with your Creator.”
Olaofe further highlighted the significance of gratitude and unity, calling on attendees to remain steadfast in faith and collective purpose. He offered prayers for national leaders and specifically acknowledged political figures present, expressing hope for divine guidance in leadership, including aspirations for future governance in Oyo State.
The scholar also led recognitions of dignitaries, including the Inspector-General of Police, whom he described as “chosen by Allah to serve with integrity,” commending his leadership and commitment to professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force.
In his remarks, the Chairman of NASFAT Gudu Branch, Alhaji Tajudeen Ibrahim, described the celebrant as a rare gem and role model whose life exemplifies humility, service, and faith. He likened her to “gold refined into a diamond,” stressing that her true value becomes even more evident upon closer interaction.
“It is not easy to serve for 35 years and retire in good health and honour,” he said. “What we are celebrating today is not just retirement, but a life of impact, discipline, and devotion to Allah and humanity.”
Ibrahim also commended the Inspector-General of Police for fostering professionalism within the force and maintaining cordial relations with the Muslim community. He revealed that the police chief is a long-standing member of NASFAT in Lagos and announced plans for his formal induction into the Abuja branch.
The chairman further highlighted the rapid development of the NASFAT Gudu Mosque, noting that significant progress had been achieved within a short period through collective support and divine grace. He urged attendees to contribute generously and to leave the event with prayers and expectations of divine blessings.
Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, delivered an emotional vote of thanks, reflecting on his wife’s journey from their university days at Lagos State University to her distinguished career. He described her as exceptionally brilliant and resilient, recalling how she tutored even senior colleagues in mathematics despite being junior at the time.
He also acknowledged the contributions of friends, mentors, and associates, including Ambassador Kunle Adeleke, whom he praised for his generosity and community support. The senator offered prayers for political allies and expressed optimism about the future of leadership in Oyo State.
The highlight of the event was the tribute to Alhaja Modinat Akintunde, an accomplished Information Technology executive who spent her career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
She was recognised for driving digital transformation, strengthening corporate governance, and improving operational efficiency through innovative systems and enterprise solutions.
In her heartfelt speech, the celebrant expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for a fulfilling career marked by growth, challenges, and achievements. She attributed her success to divine guidance, family support, and professional opportunities provided by NNPC.
She paid special tribute to her husband for his unwavering encouragement and described him as her pillar of strength throughout her career. She also appreciated her children, colleagues, and the broader NASFAT community for their support.

The gathering concluded with prayers for the successful completion of the NASFAT Gudu Mosque, as well as for national peace, prosperity, and continued unity among Nigerians, reinforcing the enduring values of faith, service, and community development.
