The Nigerian Army has inaugurated newly completed housing projects in Badagry, Lagos State, as part of efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of its personnel.
The projects, unveiled on Friday, are located at the 15 Field Engineers Regiment, Topo, and the 243 Battalion in Ibereko, Badagry. They include four Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ Quarters and four Single Officers’ Quarters.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. , the Commander, Corps of Signals, Maj.-Gen. , said the initiative underscores the Army’s commitment to personnel welfare, noting that adequate housing is critical to operational effectiveness, morale, and productivity.
Abdullahi explained that the projects were conceived to address longstanding accommodation deficits within the barracks. He added that many of the existing buildings had deteriorated over time, prompting their remodeling from one-bedroom units into more functional two-bedroom apartments to meet modern housing standards.
“These projects are more than mere structures; they are investments in the well-being of our officers and soldiers. Comfortable accommodation enhances family stability and enables personnel to focus on their responsibilities,” he said.
He assured troops that the Army leadership would continue to prioritise welfare-driven projects, in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities to ensure their longevity.
The representative also conveyed appreciation to President for his continued support to the Army.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. , said the division had benefitted significantly from the Chief of Army Staff’s strategic direction, particularly in executing projects that directly impact soldiers and their families.
He encouraged personnel and their families to make proper use of the new facilities, noting that positive feedback would further motivate the Army leadership to undertake more welfare initiatives.
In his remarks, the Commanding Officer of the 15 Field Engineer Regiment, Lt.-Col. , described the inauguration as a milestone in efforts to address inadequate and dilapidated housing within the barracks.
Amangele commended the leadership of the Army for its sustained commitment to improving living conditions for personnel nationwide, adding that the project reflects a broader drive to enhance morale and operational efficiency.
