The Nigerian Army, witAh support from the Nigerian Air Force, has successfully rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, weeks after she was abducted by bandits.
Mrs Abubakar was freed during an intensified search-and-rescue operation conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, following sustained offensive actions against criminal elements in Katsina State.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, where the victim was recovered.
The military disclosed that during the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to overwhelming pressure from advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, the statement said.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring her full recovery, adding that all necessary support is being provided to her family during this difficult period.

The military further stated that troops will sustain ongoing operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid Katsina State and other affected parts of the country of terrorist elements.
Major General Uba reiterated the resolve of the Armed Forces to safeguard lives and restore peace across the nation.
