The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Ogun State Chapter, has called for equitable political representation in the South-West, urging political parties to ensure fairness in the selection of candidates ahead of forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, and made public by the State Secretary, Olaleye Rasheed Damilare, the group warned against what it described as “emotional blackmail” in discussions around political leadership in the region.
MURIC stressed that justice, equity, and inclusiveness should guide decisions in states including Ogun State, Lagos State, Oyo State, Ondo State, Ekiti State, and Osun State, where it claimed that Christians have consistently dominated governorship positions.
The group argued that fairness requires a balance in leadership, noting that in Ogun State, where the current governor is a Christian, a Muslim should be given the opportunity to lead next. It made similar appeals for Lagos and Oyo states, citing what it described as longstanding patterns in political leadership.

MURIC maintained that its position was not driven by religious bias or political sponsorship but by the need to promote inclusiveness and equal representation. It also dismissed claims that its advocacy could fuel division, insisting that its call is rooted in justice and peaceful coexistence.
The organisation urged political stakeholders and party leaders across the South-West to rise above sentiments and ensure that decisions are guided by fairness and equity, warning that sustainable development cannot be achieved in the absence of justice and inclusive governance.
