The Senate has approved a fresh extension for the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act, shifting the deadline from March 31 to June 30, 2026.
The decision followed the consideration and passage of a Bill for an Act seeking to amend the 2025 Appropriation Act to allow more time for the execution of capital projects captured in the budget.
The extension is aimed at ensuring the full utilisation of funds allocated to critical infrastructure and development projects, many of which are yet to be completed due to delays in releases and implementation challenges.

Lawmakers noted that the move would help Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) improve budget performance and avoid the lapse of unspent capital funds, which could undermine ongoing projects across the country.
The Senate emphasised that the extension underscores its commitment to effective budget implementation and the delivery of key projects intended to drive economic growth and national development.
