
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that three persons died from Dengue fever between January and November 2025, as the disease recorded rising suspected and confirmed cases across parts of the country.
According to the NCDC, a total of three deaths were recorded among confirmed cases within the period, while three other persons were confirmed to have been infected with the viral disease. The Centre noted that the burden of suspected cases was heavily concentrated in Sokoto and Edo States.
In its Dengue Fever Situation Report published on Wednesday, the NCDC disclosed that Sokoto State reported 29 suspected cases in November 2025 alone, out of which three were laboratory-confirmed, with one death recorded during the month.
The report revealed that Edo State, with 537 suspected cases, and Sokoto State, with 96 suspected cases, jointly accounted for 86.4 per cent of the 735 suspected Dengue fever cases reported nationwide within the reporting period.
“A total of two deaths were recorded among confirmed cases, representing a case fatality rate. Of the suspected cases, 219, representing 29.80 per cent, were confirmed,” the report stated.
Cumulatively for November 2025, the NCDC said six confirmed cases and 29 suspected cases were reported nationwide, with one death recorded during the month.
The Centre further disclosed that Sokoto State recorded a case fatality rate of 16.67 per cent, noting that at least three local government areas in the state reported one or more suspected cases of Dengue fever between January and November 2025.

On the demographic distribution of the disease, the NCDC said individuals aged between 31 and 50 years accounted for the highest number of confirmed cases, with 96 cases, representing 43.84 per cent of the total confirmed infections.
The NCDC reiterated the need for heightened surveillance, early detection, and public health awareness to prevent further spread of Dengue fever, particularly in high-burden states.
