The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has executed a precision airstrike that destroyed a terrorist camp in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State, significantly degrading insurgent capability in the region.
The operation was carried out on January 10, 2026, targeting the Abbaga Jiri enclave, which security agencies have long identified as a strategic hideout for insurgent groups operating in the North-East. The strike followed credible intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists, weapons, and logistics supplies at the location.
Post-strike ground assessments confirmed extensive damage to terrorist structures and the neutralisation of insurgents who had gathered at the camp.
Speaking on the operation, the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the mission was executed through effective coordination of aerial surveillance, air interdiction, and supporting ground forces.
According to him, the precision air interdiction was intelligence-driven, leading to the destruction of terrorist facilities and the elimination of identified threats at the site.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, reaffirmed the Air Force’s resolve to sustain air superiority and deny insurgents any safe haven, stressing that the NAF would continue to respond decisively to threats against civilians and security personnel.

The latest strike forms part of ongoing air and ground operations aimed at degrading Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) networks across Borno State and the wider North-East. The Timbuktu Triangle, which spans border areas, has frequently been used as a base for militant movement and cross-border operations.
Although full battle damage assessments are still ongoing and casualty figures have yet to be confirmed, the operation underscores the renewed tempo of Nigeria’s counter-insurgency campaign as 2026 unfolds.
