Katsina, Nigeria — The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Katsina State Government has herald plans to establish an Automotive Skills Training Centre in Katsina as part of efforts to equip youths with practical, employable skills and reduce unemployment.
The Chairman of TETFund, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, and the Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, disclosed the initiative, which is being funded through TETFund’s special intervention programme.
The Automotive Skills Training Centre, to be located at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, is designed to provide hands-on training in modern automotive technology, including vehicle maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics. The facility is currently about 50 per cent completed.
Speaking on the project, Masari said the initiative underscores TETFund’s commitment to youth empowerment through skills acquisition, noting that technical training remains a critical driver of economic growth and job creation.
“This intervention reflects our resolve to support young people with relevant, practical skills that can make them self-reliant and competitive in today’s economy,” he said.
Governor Radda also commended the partnership, describing it as a strategic investment in the future of Katsina youths.
He stressed that the state government is prioritising skills development as a pathway to economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.
“We are proud to collaborate with TETFund on this important project, which will provide our youths with the technical capacity to thrive in the automotive industry,” the governor said.
The development was confirmed in a statement signed by Faisal Jafar Rafindadi, Coordinator of the Tinubu/Dikko Digital Innovation Centre.
According to the statement, the decision to establish the centre was approved by the TETFund Board of Trustees in February 2025.

The statement added that the centre aims to train hundreds of young people across Katsina State, with a broader target of upgrading the skills of local mechanics to meet modern standards in vehicle repair and maintenance.
The project forms part of TETFund’s broader national strategy to promote skills development, entrepreneurship, and economic prosperity across Nigeria.
