The Presidency has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will meet with his United States counterpart, Donald Trump, in the coming days to discuss allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, disclosed this in a post on X on Saturday, following Trump’s recent remarks accusing the Nigerian government of “turning a blind eye” to attacks on Christians.
According to Bwala, the proposed meeting will focus on counterterrorism cooperation and addressing misconceptions about the nature of terrorist attacks in Nigeria.
“Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interests in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote.
He added that the talks would also provide an avenue to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in intelligence sharing and defense support.
“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms, and President Tinubu has adequately utilised that opportunity in the fight against terrorism, with massive results to show for it,” Bwala noted.

Bwala further stated that concerns over whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or people of all faiths would form part of the discussions between both leaders.
Trump had recently threatened military action and warned that the United States could suspend aid to Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians — a claim the Nigerian government has firmly denied.
