The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has conferred its prestigious fellowship on the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, in recognition of his professional excellence and contributions to fiscal governance.
Senator Barau, himself an accomplished accountant, was formally admitted as a Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA) during ANAN’s 30th Annual National Conference held on Tuesday in Abuja. The FCNA designation represents the highest professional honour bestowed by the association.
Administering the oath of allegiance, ANAN’s President and Chairman of Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, described Senator Barau as a worthy ambassador of the accounting profession.
“By the virtues of the powers conferred on me as President and Chairman of the Council of this great association under Act 76 of 1993 (CAP A 26 LFN, 2004), I hereby admit you into the fellowship of the association. With this, you can add FCNA to your name. We are proud of you and we celebrate you,” she declared to loud ovation.
The Deputy Senate President was also honoured with an award for chairing the National Conference.
Among dignitaries present was the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ojunjimi, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
In his goodwill message, Mal. Adamu Abubakar, Chairman of ANAN’s Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops Committee, praised Senator Barau as a reform-minded statesman whose legislative leadership, particularly as head of appropriation committees in both chambers of the National Assembly, has shaped Nigeria’s fiscal policy.
In his response, Senator Barau commended ANAN for its role in strengthening Nigeria’s financial systems through ethics, governance, and regulatory reforms.

“ANAN deserves recognition for reinforcing accountability and compliance in financial management. These efforts align with the National Assembly’s commitment to reform finance-related laws to bolster Nigeria’s financial integrity,” he said.
He further highlighted the association’s focus on public sector financial management, stressing that accountants play a pivotal role in ensuring prudent use of public funds and advancing fiscal responsibility, as enshrined in the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
