The Director General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO), Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, has honored six retiring staff members and a former Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA) for their exceptional contributions to the agency.
The recognition took place during a send-forth and appreciation award ceremony held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the MCO Conference Room in Abuja.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Mrs. Okeke G. Amara. O, Head of Press at MCO, and released on Friday.
In his opening remarks, Engr. Nkom commended the retirees and the former DFA for their unwavering commitment, professionalism, and dedication to duty. He emphasized that their years of service significantly contributed to the growth and efficiency of the MCO, noting that their legacy would remain a guiding force within the agency.
“The impact of your work cannot be overstated. Though you are retiring, you will always be a part of the MCO family. Your expertise and experience remain invaluable, and we will not hesitate to call upon you when needed,” he said.
Engr. Frank Odo, MNI, a friend of the agency, also spoke at the event, offering prayers and words of encouragement to the retirees. Quoting the late Pope Francis, he said, “Death is not everything; after death, there is something,” drawing a metaphor to suggest that retirement opens doors to new opportunities.
Management staff also took turns to celebrate the honorees, praising their legacy of integrity and professionalism, and encouraging them to stay connected to their faith, regardless of religious affiliation.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Abraham Oloruntoba expressed deep gratitude to the DG and the entire MCO staff for the honor. He described Engr. Nkom as a compassionate leader whose support and kindness would not be forgotten.

Also speaking, Mr. Jacob Olufemi Ayinshola, now Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Works and a former DFA at MCO, thanked the DG for his mentorship and support during his promotion exams. He praised the retirees for their dedication and urged them to continue making positive contributions to their families and communities.
The ceremony featured the presentation of Certificates and Plaques of Integrity in Service to the retirees and the former DFA, in the presence of their families and loved ones. The event concluded with gift presentations and group photographs.
