Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has raised concerns over the growing influence of Boko Haram in the state, revealing that the terrorist group now controls three local government areas (LGAs) in Borno.
Ndume lamented the escalating violence, reporting 252 attacks within six months that have claimed over 300 lives. He added that Boko Haram’s grip on the region has led to widespread insecurity and the imposition of unofficial curfews.
“From 6 p.m., you cannot go anywhere except in Southern Borno,” he said, explaining that movement between LGAs is restricted from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m., and only resumes after Nigerian Army personnel manually clear the roads.

While commending security forces for killing over 800 terrorists, the senator expressed concern over manpower shortages in the military. “The total number of personnel is not up to 300,000. That’s not enough to secure over 200 million people,” he said during an emergency security meeting convened by Governor Babagana Zulum with service chiefs.
Ndume called for urgent reinforcement of security forces, citing the relocation of military bases and the disruption of major transport routes, including the vital Maiduguri–Biu road.
