
Headfort Foundation for Justice on Saturday sensisitised women of Ikorodu North LCDA on human rights.
Newsmen reports that the capacity building was done as part of àctivities to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
The theme of the IWD 2025 is “Accelerating Action.”
Speaking at the event, Olajumoke Ogunfowora, a Lawyer at Headfort Foundation for Justice, said that the foundation helps to accelerate action by bridging the justice gap when women are involved.
“So, we represent women in criminal matters.
“We advocate for the welfare of female inmates.
“We organise programmes like this to build the capacity of women on their rights.
“We carry out market place mediation for women when they have issues with their rights,” Ogunfowora said.
She noted that the foundation also seeks justice for female defenders in Nigerian prisons.
According to her, the sensitisation on human rights will help the women to seek redress whenever their rights were trampled upon.
She added that women need to speak up against sexual violence and gender based violence.
Also speaking, Mrs Fummi Ogunro, the Founder of Friends of the Deaf Foundation International Foundation. enjoined women to celebrate themselves, especially on IWD.
Ogunro noted that women play critical roles in every home, adding that it is a happy woman that can make a happy home.
“A woman should do everything to realise her potentials and since the success of the home depends on her, she need to work hard to be a pillar of support.
” A women should take time to love herself and to be able to radiate that love in her family and in the society,” Ogunro said.
The climax of the celebration was the presentation of about 100 packs of gifts for women that took part in the event.
One of the participants, Ademola Adebukola, an Artisan, expresed gratitude to Headfort Foundation and its partners for the celebrating them and building their capacity on Human Rights.
The event was done in partnership with the Friends of the Deaf Foundation with the support of Real Women Foundation.
