Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has responded to urgent concerns raised by military officers, their families, and residents of the Surulere area regarding a giant billboard at Abati Barracks that has collapsed twice, causing injuries and damage to property.
LASAA unequivocally disassociates itself from any actions that endanger lives and property and remains committed to ensuring the structural integrity of all advertising structures in Lagos. Billboards that pose a risk to public safety will not be permitted to stand.
The Agency wishes to clarify that the billboard in question is not registered with LASAA and is therefore illegal. Despite previous efforts to regulate advertising structures within and around military, police, and air force formations in Lagos, LASAA has faced challenges in securing the necessary cooperation from relevant authorities. It is imperative that LASAA be allowed to carry out its mandate without interference to prevent accidents caused by unregulated advertising structures.
The billboard’s owner, Radius Resources Limited, has been sanctioned by LASAA and has remained under suspension since October 24, 2024, due to unethical practices. As a result, the company had no authorization to reinstall the fallen billboard.
In response to the incident, LASAA has issued a stop-work order to Radius Resources Limited to prevent any further risks at the location. The Agency has also formally notified the Nigerian Army about the situation, emphasizing the need to halt all construction activities at the site pending a thorough reassessment.
LASAA acknowledges the community’s concerns and reiterates its zero-tolerance policy for unapproved billboard installations that compromise public safety.
Managing Director of LASAA, Prince Fatiu Akiolu, stated: “We strongly urge all stakeholders, including outdoor advertising practitioners, as well as military, air force, and police formations, to collaborate with LASAA and adhere to existing regulations governing billboard installations. We must work together to ensure that advertising practices in Lagos are safe, compliant, and sustainable, prioritizing the protection of lives and property.”

LASAA calls on the public—including community members and security personnel—to report any unsafe billboard installations or violations of advertising regulations. By working together, we can enhance public safety while preserving the aesthetic and structural integrity of Lagos’ outdoor advertising landscape.
