Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, representing Ondo North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has encouraged students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to prioritize learning and leadership development as they prepare for the future.
The senator gave this charge on Wednesday while receiving members of FUTA’s Student Representative Council (SRC), led by its speaker, Comrade Daniel Adewale, at his office.
The FUTA SRC delegation was at the National Assembly to observe the proceedings of the upper chamber as part of their parliamentary studies. They also used the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to Senator Ipinsagba, whom they described as a distinguished representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In his address, Senator Ipinsagba emphasized the importance of continuous learning in leadership. He urged the students to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead effectively when they assume positions of authority.
“You are here to witness Senate proceedings—this is a learning process,” the senator said. “As future leaders, you need to get it right from the beginning. Leadership is a responsibility, and the earlier you understand its intricacies, the better prepared you will be when you ascend to positions of power.”
Welcoming the students to the National Assembly, he advised them to remain focused on activities that promote unity and growth while avoiding distractions that could hinder their progress.
On his part, Comrade Daniel Adewale, the FUTA SRC speaker, explained that their visit was part of their parliamentary studies aimed at gaining deeper insights into legislative processes.
“The purpose of our visit is to engage in parliamentary learning by observing proceedings at the National Assembly and various state Houses of Assembly,” Adewale said. “Today, witnessing the Nigerian Senate’s plenary session has given us valuable insights into how bills are debated and passed into law.”
The visit provided the students with a first-hand experience of legislative functions, further strengthening their understanding of governance and policymaking.
