NiDCOM Welcomes 13 Nigerians Rescued from Trafficking in Ghana, Caution Against Irregular Migration
Lagos – The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has facilitated the safe return of 13 Nigerians, including 11 adults and two infants, rescued from a human trafficking network in Ghana.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for its pivotal role in the operation. She also expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for providing transportation and logistical support during the repatriation.
According to a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols at NiDCOM, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) conducted profiling as part of the standard reintegration process, while NiDCOM ensured safe return of the victims to their respective states. The group was received in Lagos by Mr. Dele Ogunkanbi, Head of Operations for NiDCOM.

Dabiri-Erewa reiterated concerns over the dangers of irregular migration, warning young Nigerians against unverified job offers and travel arrangements abroad. She called for heightened vigilance to prevent exploitation and human trafficking.
The rescued individuals, some of whom were diagnosed with serious health conditions, are receiving medical care and mental health support. The repatriation was coordinated by Amb. Adeoye, Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, alongside relevant stakeholders and partner agencies.
