The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has called on residents to take advantage of free tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and treatment services, warning that the disease remains a major public health threat.
Speaking in Awka on Tuesday to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day 2026, Mrs Soludo stressed the need for proactive measures to curb the spread of TB, in line with the global theme, “Yes! We Can End TB.”
She noted that the disease continues to affect thousands of individuals and families, with significant mortality rates recorded across communities.
She emphasised that TB testing and treatment are provided at no cost in public health facilities and several private hospitals across Nigeria, urging residents to utilise these services promptly. According to her, early detection remains critical in controlling transmission and improving survival outcomes.

Mrs Soludo advised individuals experiencing symptoms such as a persistent cough lasting more than three weeks, chest pain, coughing up blood, fever, night sweats, fatigue, or unexplained weight loss to seek immediate medical attention.
She further called for collective responsibility in tackling the disease, expressing optimism that with sustained awareness, early diagnosis, and proper treatment, TB can be eliminated. “Ending TB is possible, but it requires sincere and coordinated action from everyone,” she said.
