,…… Offers Free Medical Outreach in Abuja

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, through its Food and Drug Services Department, on Tuesday led a health walk in Abuja to commemorate the 2025 World Pharmacists Day, with a call on Nigerians to prioritize their health and access safe medicines only from licensed pharmacies.
Themed “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”, the event began with a road walk aimed at sensitizing the public on the importance of healthy living, exercise, and responsible healthcare practices.
The Ministry also announced a free medical outreach scheduled to be held on 24th Wednesday, September at the Federal Secretariat, where citizens will be screened for malaria, hypertension, and diabetes.
Speaking during the walk, the Head of the Pharmaceutical Services Division, Mrs. Talatu Yahaya, emphasized the central role of pharmacists in ensuring safe access to medicines. She warned against patronizing unqualified persons and unlicensed outlets for medications.
“When you think of health, think pharmacist. Medicines are the fulcrum of the healthcare system, and pharmacists remain at the center of ensuring their safe and effective use,” Yahaya said.
She also stressed the need for Nigerians to complete prescribed drug regimens to curb antimicrobial resistance.

Deputy Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Hasiha Adawra, added that the outreach would help citizens detect silent killers such as hypertension and diabetes, which often go unnoticed until they become fatal.
World Pharmacists Day, marked every September 25, celebrates the contribution of pharmacists to global health and highlights the importance of accessing medicines through registered pharmacies.
