A 15-year-old boy, Onyebuchi Godwin, has been remanded at the Awka Correctional Facility for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl in Anambra State.
The Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Offences Court in Awka gave the order on Thursday after the police arraigned the defendant on a one-count charge of rape.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu, the incident occurred on March 10, 2025, in Agbani, Umuawulu community, Awka South Local Government Area.
The prosecutor told the court that the victim’s mother had sent her daughter to the farm to deliver food to workers and gather firewood on her way home.
“The defendant allegedly attacked her in the bush, overpowered her, tore her clothing, and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her,” Okechukwu said.
She added that a medical examination at the Ntasi Sexual Assault Referral Centre, General Hospital Enugu-Ukwu, confirmed that the girl had been raped.

Okechukwu said the offence contravened Section 130(2)(a)(b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022, and urged the court to remand the suspect in a correctional facility.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty, claiming the act was consensual.
Chief Magistrate U.E. Onochie ordered his remand at the Awka Correctional Facility, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions(DPP).
Onochie adjourned the case until May 7, for report of compliance.
