The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra said an accident along Idemili River by the Second Niger Bridge claimed the lives of four persons on Tuesday.
The Sector Commander, Mrs Joyce Alexander, who confirmed the accident to newsmen in Awka, said the accident could be attributed to speeding and loss of control resulting in a head-on collision.
Alexander said the crash involved a brown Mercedes trailer without registration number, a white commercial bus with registration number XED526XA, and four Bajaj tricycles with no registration numbers.
“According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the brown Mercedes trailer with an unstrapped container was descending a hill at high speed, lost control and crashed into five other vehicles parked by the roadside.
“A total of six people were involved in the crash – two male adults and four female adults. Four were confirmed dead and two others were injured.

“FRSC officials arrived the scene to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow. They took the remains of the dead to Crown Hospital and St. Edward Hospital in Obosi while the injured victims were taken to Unity Hospital in Obosi,” she said.
While condoling with the families of the dead, Alexander urged road users to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure safe travels to their destinations.
She also advised motorists to refrain from speeding and conditions that could compromise their safety on the road.
